If it snows on the steps and sidewalk, and a "handy household hints" guide suggests sprinkling kitty litter on the snow to make everything less slippery...?
Do NOT use kitty litter that CLUMPS. Just use the regular kind. The stuff that is like sand. Better yet, use sand.
Or you will be cleaning shoes for the rest of the year.
Just a tip. That is all for now.

I used the non-clumping kitty litter one winter at a house we were renting. Tracking it in ruined the wax finish on the first floor entry. Best to avoid it altogether, I say.

There you go everyone! The wisdom of experience.
NO KITTY LITTER.
Tracking in salt is a bummer too. I guess the best we can do is shovel like crazy.

Actually, most of the clay-based clumping litters have a disclaimer on them that says not to use it as a traction device. It seemed pretty obvious to me, but I suppose maybe not!

It seems more obvious to me now, ack! I can only say in my defense (which is somewhat lame...always read the fine print) that it was late and snowing and the dog (12 year old good girl that she is with hip dysplasia) slipped on the steps going down. I was trying to find something to help her come back up and she's heavy!
I hope our post about my dorky mistake will help somebody avoid same! :)
Plus, dang I'm old. Is it just me or do other folks remember when all kitty litter WAS sand? We never had clumping scented designer litter when I was a kid!
