I think "sauntered back" wouldn't begin to describe the chutzpah with which Dave wandered into the kitchen this morning.
This is after we:
- Scoured every closet, drawer and cabinet.
- Checked under every piece of furniture -- 3 times.
- Walked around the block in the cold calling his name forlornly -- 4 times
- Used the big flashlight to look in the walls and between the floors where we had openings
- Went to bed sad and frustrated, wondering how fast we could put up posters in the morning
We still have no idea WHERE he WAS. And he won't say. But he is WAY "over me" as I try to take a celebratory photo of him.
"Ah, c'mon Dave! Just one picture for everyone so they can see how happy you are to be back!"
"Okay! Fine! What if I turn on the can opener?"
"That's what I thought. Next time, I'm just using the can opener and a long extension cord. Forget about hiking around in the cold dark...." Mutter, mutter, mutter.
For the rest of you with a cat like mine, check out Garrison Keillor's "Songs of the Cat: The In and Out Song." The lyrics are true enough.

I'm so glad he's back. Was he dirty at all, that would indicate him having been in the walls?

I thought of you today when I momentarily lost track of my two, Tobey and Calvin, when the furnace repairman came in and scared them. (He was big, clothed in one of those "I'm going to work in freezing basements today" work jumpsuits and clanging through the door carrying a LOT of tools and stuff). He left the basement door open, then the back door open, and they're indoor kittens (8 months) who've never ventured to the depths of the basement. I finally found them huddled under the clawfoot. Calvin's still under there. Glad Dave's back!
P.S.: Please send positive heat thoughts my way until the chimney sweep comes tomorrow to remove the clog that's shutting the boiler down. It's only 4 degrees! Yikes.

I "lost" a cat belong to my mother in our small apartment one time. We had an old castro convertible couch in the den/office. I was sitting on it and heard a suspicious noise. I opened up the arm of the chair with my dressmaking shears I was so desperate to get the cat out. I imagine she would have eventually come out on her own.
Couch never quite recovered....
