Because of the educational nature of our site--or something---we occasionally get questions about home improvement or bungalow restoration issues that we know NOTHING about!
Remember, we aren't experts...this site is not commercially sponsored. We are just a regular, if somewhat blog happy, couple from the Midwest with one really strange house.
We still get these questions though. Norm Abram! Where are you when we need you???!!!

Dear Edith--
ALL kinds of housing interests us...including affordable housing. It also feels very good when you know how to fix up your own place.
Trailer homes have special needs because of their construction. There have been more than a few discussions about trailer homes at the Breaktime Forum at Fine Homebuilding. Just follow the link and search on "trailer homes" or "mobile homes". There are a lot of great ideas out there on how to make a mobile home pretty snug.
Take good care--

Hello
My name is Michelle and when doing an internet search for antique Hartmann luggage, your website came up. I have that same piece of luggage. It was my husband's Grandmothers. I am trying to get a little history on it and maybe even the value.
Thank you for your time.
Michelle

Subject: Beckwith Organ

I have an old Beckwith pump organ that has been in my family for a number of years that needs to go to someone who can play and enjoy it. I saw on your website that you are trying to sell one, so I wonder if you might be able to help me determine its approximate value. Im in Atlanta, so I wont be in competition with you. If you can give me an idea on this, I would very much appreciate it.
From owners at Houseinprogress.net:
Hi David--
We'll be completely honest...we have no experience in selling organs. So we have just a hazy idea of what the organ market is actually about.
Websites that may be more experienced and which might be able to help include:
KBB Antique Pianos (look under Reed organs)
Mander Organs
eBay (you can specify that something is for "pick up only" in your area)
Thanks for stopping by our site and best of luck!
J & A

hey guys -
i just stumbled on your website for the first time after entering a search for "chicago condo subfloor damage."
i am looking at job that might just be the worst ever. the condo building is in lakeview, built in the late 1800's and the unit is on the 7th floor. the place went condo in the 1980's and my problem is a toilet that is about to fall into a sink hole as the tile has started to give way. i do remodeing for a living but am petrified to even touch this one.
my question to you is if you have any idea what is underneath there and what to expect, or if you can refer me to anyone that would know.
thanks so much
enjoyed your site and hope all is well

Whoa Clayton!
That sounds awful. Get over to the Breaktime Forum at Fine Homebuilding stat! And post your description under "Construction Techniques"...the folks are helpful and will get back to you pretty quickly.
Did you drain the toilet and take it out? I would try to get weight off of there as soon as you can.
Good luck with it.

Hi. Just wanted to let you know that I found your RSS feed through bloglines.com and am reading all about your house-in-progress adventures. I bought a place in Philadelphia about 18 months ago and am having fun with minor cosmetic changes...
