Giving Birth to a Blog and House...No Hat Trick Yet

Category: Daily Diary

My mom is a little disappointed. We talked on the phone last night.

You have to know that this is the woman who, upon first driving out to our bungalow from her house in Virginia, leapt out of the car and dragged the following item up the front steps:

(via Babyjogger.com)

Subtle? My mother? When it comes to cheering on her brood towards procreation, she is about as subtle as a brick dropped on one's head.

She will not be entirely satisfied until we have a baby in one hand and a roofing nailer in the other. Personally, we think this could lead to some scary, scary mix-ups.

A and I are determined to "lock down" the second floor of this place for a finished retreat before the patter of little feet go teetering for the Miter Saw. Second floor first. Kid, after.

This has not deterred my mother.

She has now practically ordered us to draw up a plan and has determined that she, my father and my brother-in-law will drive west in the minivan this Spring and NAIL DOWN THAT SECOND FLOOR!

So, to set her mind at rest that we have accomplished something of value in these past nine months, I will need to speak to her in her language. Excuse me. Ahem.

Mother dear--

I used the online due date calculator today. According to our calculations, we have passed an important milestone for your new grandchild, the weblog. Aren't you happy? Could you be more delirious with joy???!!!

It was conceived on July 4, 2003 and I couldn't be more radiant with sweat (in this, my ninth month. Yes, my ankles are swelling...) We had a small false alarm before this pregnancy around June 3rd, but we knew we had a growing little weblog on July 4th. Which means that my official due date is...

(licks pencil....doodles on desktop..."le'see...9 months...this many weeks, carry the 2 and add....")

Yup, the due date is FRIDAY, MARCH 26th!!!

The doctor says that we are making great progress...we are up to an average of 2,915 page views per day. We are already up to 55,392 page views so far this month and Junior is growing in leaps and bounds it seems!! Every once in a while it kicks me and pokes at me...and it is already keeping me up later at night than I want to be, the little dickins.

I'm sending sonogram. (Just click on it to enlarge it.) The dog also can't wait to see her Grandma soon! Remember the dog?

love,

J

p.s. I HAVE to give a shout out to Anita Rowland, one of our favorite bloggers, who was just interviewed by NPR's "The Works"...you can catch the interview on the KUOW website. Anita, glam blogger :)

But will it take care of you in your old age?

What? The roof nailer? :)

love, your sassy eldest daughter

I'm amused that your Google ads on the right of this page are all for pregnancy related stuff today.

If I keep writing "pregnant" "due date" "baby" etc. will more ads appear?

What happens if I talk about the nipples that go on baby bottles, and also mention Amber Tamblyn of Joan of Arcadia fame? Will any 14 year old boys show up?

Gotta love Google :) I think they are in league with my mother. But I will haughtily disdain their ads. HA!

(I don't think it will change the ads, I think it reads them from the top of the entry down ?)

Anyway, we did have someone experiment with Rice Krispie Treats in the comments once and, sure enough, for awhile you could Google the words "House in Progress" and "rice krispie treats" and this site popped up.

That was a long time ago, though. Many more recent Rice Krispie mentions have replaced that one since then.

Congratulations!!! Mar. 26th is rapidly approaching.. Have you picked out a name yet??? This Old House just will not do!! POPS"30"

omfg! this was so funny! I love the "blog ultrasound." You know those "My Granddog" tees? Sounds like time for "I love my Grandblog" merch. I feel a CafePress moment coming on...

Our parents were pretty well behaved about the kids thing, except for my Dad, who was totally Out of Control (or double-Oh-Cee, as we refer to it at Chez Williams). But I have to back you up on the "finish major reno before kids" thing. We're currently subdividing a room and knocking down a wall to convert a large room and a large coat closet into a guest room and a nursery, and our 2.5 year old basically has toddler PTSD from the compressor for the nail gun. Not to mention the ten-week old baby...

POPS--you are so sweet! We think we are going to stay with HouseinProgress for now, but HIP for short :)

Lisa--I love it when you post pics of your space on your site...especially since you have done so much with it. It gives us hope, really. "I love my GrandBlog" is something that she really NEEDS...bwahahaha! Now, for a design! You? LilNemo? Mitch O'Connell? All would have rockin designs.

So, do toddlers with PTSD throw themselves under the dresser at the sound of a SawZall, lisping "Down, down! Fer the love of..." Renovation and kids...we've had a few friends who have done it. Brave, brave souls. Once we get the 2nd floor together, we might be one of them...as the first floor will take a few years. Yikes. (p.s. I LOVE the pics of the baby too on top of your savvy writing. Mommy's can do it all...we have proof!)
