Ugh.

Category: Daily Diary

Today, I want to run away from home. Well. Maybe not "from home." From "this house."

No particular reason, except that I feel burnt out on broken house/car/body. All the party people renovation people in the house, give me a "Yeh! Yehhhhhh!"

I woke up late this morning, which meant that I woke Aaron up with a shout from the kitchen, "How much do you love me?"

Everyone who is married will recognize this for the unfair and manipulative question that it is. For him, I'm sure it was like being woken up at some twisted marriage bootcamp.

"Very much, ma'am! Reporting for duty, ma'am!"

I needed a ride to the doctor's office all the way downtown, since I wouldn't be able to park and make it on time. Since he is a terrific sport, I met him at the door with his baseball cap and shoes on the way out.

He cruised Millenium Park in the station wagon until I was done. Then we went to drop off the other car at the mechanic...again. Hey! Third time is a charm, right?

It is a grey and overcast day here, after being sunny and in the high 70's, after being in the high & humid 90's. All within the last week. Ahhh. We love Chicago.

So I am sulking in the back room with the dog and working on the computer doing research. The moldy and smelly back room.

And I want to run away.
With my pillow and my toothbrush. And my husband and pets.

Signed,

Little Miss Sunshine---not.

I think that in homeownership, like in marriage, there is that little contract that is signed to keep you committed when you want to runaway, it is called a mortgage (marriage license). It makes it a little more difficult and by the time you get around to packing your bags, well, you have reconciled with yourself and your committment. Don't look at your home as a BIG PROJECT, look at it as in many little projects and reward youself and your family after every little project.

We are going on month 2 of the bathroom renovation. We have all of our supplies, everything that we may need to get this party started, but TIME and TIME.

I am so tired of making that 2 o'clock trip to the bathroom up the stairs with one of the kids. I am seriously thinking of bringing in that chamber pot that is sitting in my garden.

P.S. Oust, air sanitizer, kinda helps with the odors temporarily.

Hang in there.

That looks like an industrial strength stapler in the photo...I have one just like it... POPS"30"

Hey Ana!

I would only run away for a little while, provided I could take Aaron and Coco and Dave with me :) It's the house/car/health thing I wanted a break from yesterday...but A & C & D (where ever THEY are) are my HOME.

Hey Pops!

It is an Ace Fastener PILOT stapler from good old Chicago, IL...I LOVE it. The designer AND usability person in me thinks it is the best stapler around. (It even inspired its own article in Fortune Magazine awhile back.) You can still buy them too! Ours is from 1938, but the new ones look the same. eBay is a good bet to pick one up. If you want a new one, you can get one here...

Hah! I just searched Google with the search term from yesterday..."grumpy." And I found THIS (I love it. Who WOULDN'T want a t-shirt from Grumpy's???)

I guess its something about summer- I am "down on the house" too, I can totally relate. Its like a labor camp. You sleep in it, you work in it. You eat in it. Everywhere you look you see more work. One observation that could help is my husband's: I don't dwell on my successes, just the things that have yet to be done (read as failures). When you have your bedroom done upstairs that'll be HUGE and you will feel much better, bust your butt get it done and lock yourself in bed with dog and REST!!! (but continue posting for all of us slaves!)
Hope your health holds out, I caused a hand- arthritis flare up last week.

Oh yeah, one more thing which I have found to be a cheap luxury:
Pay the neighbor kid to slave on your lawn for a Saturday afternoon. It gives you your day back.

Hey- I was just telling my Mom about your site last nite at dinner and how great I think you guys are- amazingly ambitious. We just spent 3 days 12- 14 hours each day drywalling our kitchen. (It takes newbies like us a while to drywall I guess.) It was gutted Easter weekend -by us. I tell myself- these sacrifices are worth it. I think you'll feel better when you have more rooms done- that's what helped me. :o)
