Needing Inspiration...

Category: Daily Diary

We're at another one of those moments...working on the house can be a rollercoaster of "How cool is this! We're creating our own space out of this old house!" and "Again? We have to work again this weekend? Sigh."

That's when we really have to grope around for inspiration. To recharge our batteries. To refuel our passion for all of this.

To do this, we might have to head up to our old stomping grounds (Evanston, Illinois AND Northwestern University) soon...to the Block Museum!

They're currently have an exhibition...

The Beauty of Life: William Morris and the Art of Design
Until March 13, 2005
The varied works of William Morris, British designer and father of the Arts & Crafts movement

Maybe a glimpse at the movement that sparked the design of our bungalow will move us to complete the next stage of this project with more enthusiasm.

Or, maybe a stroll through Unreal Estates will inspire us in a sort of reverse way...whoa! If we don't get a move on, our house could de-evolve into this...complete with really strange water.

Oh, yes, looking at beautiful works of art is definitely a good way of refueling when in need of inspiration... Museum websites are an obvious choice, and a good one.
But I've also bumped into something at the S&W website (http://www.sherwin-williams.com/), who mainly sells paints & colors. They have a framed gallery section, where you can leisurely browse at William Morris art, but also at a French "Art Nouveau" patterns, not unlike Morris'...
Very impressive 1925 stuff...

The French Jabberwocky.

Here's the direct link :

You'll see designs by E.A. Seguy, "one of the great masters of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles in France, from his "Les Fleurs et leurs applications decoratives" [Flowers and Their Decorative Applications], a large portfolio of beautifully colored floral designs intended for decorators, textile and wallpaper designers, illustrators, etc., published in Paris in 1902 (Librairie des Arts Decoratifs, A. Calavas, Editeur)."

So it's great 1902 art, not "1925" as I mentioned before.

I guess I'm showing my ignorance, but I can only think that picture looks like some kind of funky basketball hoop...What is it??? POPS"30"
