I Confess

Category: Daily Diary

I vaguely recall discussions in which I questioned the "costly" investment in central air when we had so many other improvements to get done.

I take it all back...

We get free AC from Mother Nature. I posted this before but only because it amazes me so much. It never gets above 75 here. You can go 10 miles inland and the temps climb in to the 80s and 90s and above on a regular basis. In the city limits though, people talk about "The Heat" when it gets above 70. Very strange. I'm wearing a sweater right now. The city tries to draw inland tourists during the summer months with billboards that read "FREE AIR CONDITIONING!"

Yikes- Stay cool- 90 degrees definitely calls for central air. The access panel looks great!

Sure--rub it in! ;-)

Six more days until the install. :(

Your article on high-velocity systems inspired us to install it in our house when we moved to Baltimore. We moved in January, knowing we would need A/C... it was installed at the end of April... and it hit 94 here yesterday. Oh, and we completely insulated the house too, so we're not cooling the whole neighborhood!

I know a chick who has central air here in Alabama but NEVER USES IT! Why oh why???

I have to say being in Chicago myself and experiencing "the heat", I am jealous of your new system. We are in the window unit stage and we put the bedroom one in last night, but still have the main unit to install.

Such a creature comfort I bet!

opposite problem here, never gets much below 70 here, people questioned why we didn;t put in a heat pump. well, we turned the heat on a total of three times for maybe four hours each this past winter. did not have a freeze even for a moment, we preferred to spend our money on some really cool insulation for the block wall we had to use since we are in a hurricane prone area and an extra high sear unit for ac. we are so glad it has hit 90 quite a few times already and will continue to do so until well into october. funny how used to climate control we all get and how grumpy we become without it!!

And here is where I love A/C in old houses, though I was reluctant at first. (My allergies forced my hand.)

These high velocity systems "wick" humidity out of the house during those high humidity days, keeping the surfaces inside of the house dry and smelling fresh. No mold or mildew. That so totally rocks my world. Until we installed this last year, I lived with window A/C in Chicago since 1988, though, and that works well too. :)

My computer crashed so this is my first posting in some time...For most of my life I did not like air conditioning. When I bought my bungalow many years ago, I threw out the window units that were there.
At this time of my life(75yrs) I have central air in my little tri level and I love it...POPS -30-

Thank goodness for air conditioning--central or otherwise--on sweltering Chicago summer days! I never broke down and got a unit, but only because we never lived more than a block from the lake. Summer was never much fun.

Hey, how about sending some of your rain down to Chambana? Please?
