Rube Goldberg's Guide to Home Improvement

Category: Restore & Repair

As I've been mentioning recently, the remaining tasks in the master bath are now just some cabinetry and trim. Well, today I put in the very last pieces of the beadboard wainscoat.

Let me be the first to say that Rube Goldberg would be extremely proud of my methods...

The instructions on the back of the Gorilla Glue I purchased sounded simple enough:
1) Damp It
2) Glue It
3) Clamp It

Easy enough, except there's no realistic way to apply a clamp to the final end piece I was trying to install that terminates the beadboard where it meets the tile curb.

The instructions do suggest options, though: "Or, if you don't have a clamp, use heavy objects to achieve clamping pressure." OK, I can do that.

Every good project obviously starts with a hammer...

...insert dowel A through cabinet frame B...

...lean cabinet frame B against trim piece C...

...then of course, you should always apply duct tape...

...and there you have it!

"Objects should remain clamped for 3 to 4 hours. For best results, leave overnight."

I'll tell you one thing, that Gorilla glue will hold anything if done right...POPS -30-

I can also attest. That stuff is awesome.

Home improvement is the mother of invention, or is it intervention...

Hey Aaron - Is that a Pegasus sink? Looks just like ours - a great Kohler Memoirs knock-off from Home Depot. ;)

Leah

Leah - No, that's an actual Kohler Memoirs. We got it last summer, actually, in a spirit of optimism regarding how soon we might actually have needed it. I wasn't aware HD offered something simiar...I'll try not to think about how much you might have saved on that Pegasus...
