Busy Weekend, Redefined

Category: Daily Diary

So, with a little new person in the house (who hasn't helped out at all around the house yet, btw) what counts as a busy weekend is completely redefined.

Grace has been wonderful, but a lot less is getting done around the house.  Not that she really seems to mind, but still...

The bad thing is that large-scale project work seems like it will be a lot less feasible for a while.  Part of this is not wanting to have a lot of dust, noise and chaos around the house when she's so tiny.  Part of this is that we just don't have a routine yet that can we can easily work around.

The good news?  We've got lots of small-scale project work to get done.  In particular, there's still lots of little trim work and finishing to do upstairs...on our second floor punchlist, we still need to do items 3, 4, 7, 8, 10 and 12.  Yeah, that's still half of 'em not done yet.

We're hoping that the next month we can dedicate a few weekend to knocking them out.  So far?  Not so much.

In fact, the thing we seem to be most productive at so far is a specific type of baby multitasking I've labeled 'burping and surfing.'

With any luck, maybe Grace and I can graduate to 'burping and drafting' soon.  I'm sure she'd have some great ideas for the floorplan of the kitchen.

It's okay to let the baby change things. Heck, that's practically the whole point. Let the baby drive for awhile. And don't push yourself too hard -- really! (You are sitting reading this, right? And you have eaten? Remember, don't stand when you can sit, and don't sit when you can lie down!) Think of it as the fourth trimester.

Slow Down - Enjoy It.... watch every moment. They are only like this for a little while. but watching them develop into their own little human being is amazing....

I couldn't think of a better reason to not be getting the projects completed. I think burp and surf is a great accomplishment, just remember to keep her facing away from the keyboard! Good luck with the little projects!

I'll say it again::: Amazing Grace!! POPS --30--

Hang in there!

Two years into having our first kid, I can tell you that home improvement continues after the kids arrive, albeit at a slower pace. Its hasn't stopped being fun yet!

Fun post to read, sounds familiar.

My wife and I are expecting our second child pretty soon, hopefully after and not while our house is being lifted. We had been renovating our house for about two and a half years before moving into our current one, which requires quite a few renovations as well.

boy, somebody sure looks like her dad, doesn't she?

you'll continue to work at a slower pace for a long time, but look at how much you already accomplished. a master suite, a nursery, a cleaned-up kitchen, a human being...time to rest on your laurels for a while.

When we had our son, work on the Queen came to a grinding halt for about five month(my wife was pretty sick too which didn't help). Once they start sleeping thtough the night, things will start picking up speed again.

Good luck and enjoy.

Enjoy this time with Grace and forget the house for a little while. Everything will still be there waiting. This is a very, very special time. Drink it all in!

She's beautiful! (but you already know that, right)

Awwwwwwwwwwww. . . there is nothing nicer than a pipcture of a Dad holding his little girl.
Is there anything you people don't do well?

Wow looks like you really have alot on your plate. I have a new house and we're thinking about kids soon too... Best of luck!
