Grace and I had a little visitor a few months back...

WHAT A CUTE STUBBY LITTLE TAIL!!!!

He had just tested out his wings and was practicing a few short flights when he ended up by our back steps on the ramp we had built for Coco (and still haven't taken down).

After he posed for a few pictures, he flew away into the neighbor's yard where I watched for the neighbors' cat nervously.

Fuzzy!

We have a pair of barn swallows roosting on the overhang above our front door. They are quite the little engineers, managing to support an entire mud nest on the extension cord we use to hang our Moravian star at Christmas. They've been there about three weeks, and I'm expecting the blessed event any day now.

lovely pictures! this spring, we had a robins' nest in one of our oak trees, and we spent our evenings on the back patio watching the robin family go from eggs to fledglings. it was much nicer than last year, when we had a blue jay nest perched precariously on the tile roof. either blue jays aren't very bright, or there was some kind of bird serial killer on the loose, because we lost a baby jay about every other day until all 4 were gone...they'd fall (or were they pushed?!) out of the nest and hit the driveway. it was gruesome! thank goodness they didn't try again this year.
