Renovation Source: Salvage at ridiculously low prices

Category: Daily Diary

Renovation Source of Chicago is closing its doors after many, many years in business.  This weekend, you can catch some AMAZING deals in everything for an old house.  Doors, windows, trim, fretwork, tile, hardware, reclaimed wood flooring, mantels, lighting, banisters, built-ins, EVERYTHING.  I can't even list it all...just trust me.  It's everything.

On Saturday, every single thing in there will be more than 50% off of the ticketed price.  On Sunday?  Everything will be rock bottom prices.  If you have something specific that you want, get there tomorrow at 10 am.  If you're open to anything, also show up at the end.

Their warehouse is packed to the rafters and it is all on sale to move so they can sell the building.  Get going!!!  Seriously, people.

You've got ELEVEN hours to take advantage of this awesome event.

Saturday, September 16th : 10 am - 4 pm
Sunday, September 17th:  11 am - 4 pm

They'll take cash, VISA or Mastercard.  And then? That's it.

One of our awesome neighbors, Amy, gave us the heads up on this.  This closing actually makes me very, very sad. Renovation Source is one of the few already fair and affordable architectural salvage places left in Chicago.

Lai and Bob Kaffel have run Renovation Source as a mom & pop concern and have amassed an impressive salvage collection. However, faced with competition from eBay, and finding fewer customers who want to "do it themselves" within the city, they are going to retire.

This makes me so depressed because I just found them! And now? They will be gone.

But if you want once in a lifetime prices on these things, the loss can also be someone's gain.  If you act quickly, that is.

Boy am I mad I have to leave for Miami for a trade show (for work) today! We had heard from someone that they had already closed- so this is a surprise for me. We would have gone there rather than Jan's as I think their prices are better.

We got our swinging door there and some hardware in the past. I agree- this is a loss. I am sure they can't afford the rent or taxes over there on Southport.

I'd ask Steve to go, but he's working on building a medicine cabinet and the roof parapet.... But I hope you guys can get some good stuff!

That's sad to see them close- I hope you were able to get some good deals. We've got a few favorite salvage yards in Seattle & hopefully they'll be in business for a long time. We do our part to keep them going! Let us know if you found anything!

Goo'ness me 0h my! If I'da only know'd!!!
unlike your trade show Jocelyn, I have a family get together. (DAMMIT!!!)(just kidding) and on top of this, I know also on Saturday near me there is going to be a farm auction (always the best to go to) of a 3 generation farm (100 year accumulation)AND it is likely to be bad weather...meaning outta towners stay where outta towners oughtta stay (AWAY!!!)(and away from bidding on MY STUFF!!!) oh well. There will be a lucky group of people who will all be blessed, and Chicago is a lively market, so it wont be like Ive seen elsewhere (Im thinking Kansas City right now) where a similar event happened and because there was so few people interested in 'all that old junk' when the attempt to liquidate it failed, it was just loaded up and driven off to the dump.:(

What a pity such a great place is closing! I'd loved to go to that sale. We have a salvage place in DeLand, FL that we go to now and then. We got a beautiful green sink from the 20s there for our new house a few years back. I love your blog, btw. I enjoyed reading about it in an article in the Real Estate section in our paper yesterday and will add it to my blogs folder.

Oh no! I feel like flying to Chicago this weekend. That place looks amazing!
