Finishing Touch in a Guest Room

Category: Daily Diary

We put a finishing touch on the back bedroom just in time for a house full of guests this weekend.

We framed up the map of Chicago that is still glued to the wall.  (More about the old map wall here and here and here and here.)

And there it is, right above the blow-up mattress.  Because we are so classy that way.

Oh, you REALLY should hang that one lower. heh.

I think you guest room is perfect. We did a quick (half ass) job on our guest room too. We patched the plaster as best we could in one weekend (not that well) and painted. We painted the trim brown instead of removing the 13 layers of paint and refinishing it. On the two walls where the base board trim is missing we just continued the brown paint where the base board should be to give the illusion that there is a base board and then we hung a ceiling fan that we picked at a garage sale for $25 bucks. With matching bedding, rug and window valence that we already had the room looks more put together than you might think. We are just happy to have people visit us and our guests are happy to have a place to stay (with a door). Except for the bathrooms we haven't had any interior doors for a year and a half until very recently. Also there were about 2 months where my husband and I slept on an Aero bed out of necessity. I thought is was surprisingly comfortable. I think your guests will be comfortable too.

I love it. Mostly because decades from now, future owners are going to marvel at that particular feature and go "Why the hell did they do that?"

Well, hopefully they will be only marveling at it on the houseblog CD-ROM that we give to them because that wall will be gone by then :)
