Dear Diary--
My mom and dad came for the weekend to celebrate Grace's first birthday. They arrived at the house at 3:40 pm.
This was my mom at 3:41 pm.
That blur above the counter? That is her hand. Scrubbing. The counter. With detergent. I had just returned from hanging up her coat. Which she had just removed less than 60 seconds earlier.

See?
I have thought of four possible explanations for her behavior:
Because, certainly, she wouldn't be suggesting that I NEVER CLEAN MY COUNTERS??? Would she? Hmm? Mom???

LOVE your blog! I just discovered it a couple of weeks ago. I'm impressed that you're remodeling and living in your house at the same time. I'm just trying to find time to "think" about painting a room. My sisters and I co-host a design podcast www.runawaydesign.com. If you're interested, we'd love to interview you about your blog, your re-model, etc.

#1 through #4 are excuses. The fact that the countertop was between me and the laundry is the true reason!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to Grace! Aren't Moms/Grandmas great?

Yipee! Let's hear it for the Momsters. I'll have my turn next month. Can't wait. A belated birthday wish to both Grace and "Aunt" Lisa.

Ha! My mother gets very antsy at our house. I clean like mad before she comes not because I care what she thinks but because I can't stand seeing that wild, darty look in her eye.

Very funny. Moms...you gotta love 'em!
We crack on my mom about never being able to sit still, always being ready to go. She insists that it's not true. So for Mothers Day last year my sister and I gathered up photos of my mom that we'd taken when she visited either of us...in EVERY SINGLE photo my moms handbag is either sitting right at her feet or on her lap like she is about to dart out the door! We made a collage, framed it and gave it to her. She was stunned that 30+ years of photos show her ready to split with her purse! lol
Happiest of Birthdays to Grace!

My mother does the same thing. Now we intentionally leave some mess (maybe even some laundry) so we can get more mileage out of her. No sense in having her scrub a clean counter top.

Please, please, can you send her to our house. The counter is crying out for some motherly attention!

Methinks I spot a "do-er". Being one myself I can spot them anywhere. Steve's parents are total do-ers. His Mom is always knitting or quilting and when they visit family, they pull out the power washer and wash down the deck etc... Before me, they were Steve's main helpers around here.
and Happy Birthday Grace!!

Bring your bleach, mom!
Happy Birthday to my birthday-day sharer, Grace!
Being (ahem) slightly older than yourself, Grace, my only advice is to make sure people don't try to get away with that "combo Christmas/Birthday gift" thing. Practice your "yougottabekidding!" look.

I remember being (slightly) embarrassed in college when the moms of a couple roommates showed up and couldn't keep themselves from cleaning the place. It wasn't a sty, but it sure needed the help.
