Old Radios and Old Windows

Category: Daily Diary

It's gorgeous outside. I think. I wouldn't know first hand because I have been spending the day in the basement working on the wood windows. I'm three-fourths of the way done and I'm on a roll! Whoooo hooo! Plus, I only have my parents for a day and half more so I'm trying to take advantage of the fabulous free babysitting. (Love you mom!)

I'm jamming to NPR on this vintage Zenith H725 AM/FM radio that came with the house. It works amazingly well. (Click on that NPR link and you may understand more about how all of this stuff came to be in the house we bought. NPR's stories ROCK!)

I'll try to write up the description of what I'm doing over the weekend so I can post it next week. If I don't end up buried under a pile of old storms and screens, that is.

Wow - I just finished reading your entire blog during spare time this past week. I really enjoyed reading about your challenges... and some of the great tips you posted. I look forward to more!

We have a cape cod/craftsman/bungalow/wish-it-were/wanna-be. It was build on the cheap in 1947 near Baltimore as they were clearing land for what has become BWI Airport. The wood is solid, but the house totally lacks style. We're the 3rd or 4th owners... and we've had it since 1979. Since there are no historic constraints, we've been trying to make it look more craftsman like. That was how I stumbled on your blog. I was searching for house colors and lo and behold - someone actually documenting the chalenge!!

I love the way you have incorporated some of the IKEA creations into your home. We have one close by and I rummage thru their bang and dent section... but had a hard time visualizing - now I can go on an active hunt!!

The biggest challenges we have had in the years in our home include having to re-do some of the projects. It's as if there is a life-cycle to our work. And of course - the first time or two we did the projects - we did not have any money. The ones where we did spend some money(kitchen cabinets) have held up pretty well.. just the occasional appliance replacement and some new paint on the walls.

Good luck on the success of your projects (Grace is included as a separate category) and thank you for your contribution to the community of folks who would rather have a fixed up old house, than a brand spanking new one.
