I am neither hip nor stylish. I wear Borns (because they last a minimum of 10 years) and a carpenter belt. I love being in the wood shop more than the kitchen. I have been an artist, a musician, and a teacher and a bartender. I often move in all directions at once, though I can sit quietly and give you my full attention if required. I like to connect people who don't know each other, building with human tinkertoys. I am more impatient than I would like to be. I overcommit and overprepare and overapologize.
I have no memory for names (which pains me) but I remember faces. I am a repository of strange trivia. I dislike the telephone. I am the survivor of a long struggle with chronic illness and this has left its marks on me, including the crease in the space between my eyebrows and my irreverent sense of humor. I can't remember birthdays but I will be the first person to come to your rescue at two in the morning when your car has been towed and you're stranded. I am cautious yet hopeful.
So, I'm off to BlogHer for the weekend and that was the ten second introduction that they asked for. I'll see you on Monday. Later!

Loved the post. I especially relate to the last sentence of the first paragraph: I overcommit and overprepare and overapologize. Have a great time at BlogHer- I can't wait to hear about it!

Me too! The chronic illness thing-yes
The sense of humor thing-yes
Plus a love for anything 1970s, Art Deco 1920s and 30s and any item that reminds me of my grandma.
Art
All animals
Jazz
And...my only vice...tanning (yes, I know)
Have a great time!

I was also at BlogHer and I met you briefly through Kori. We both had stomach aches thinking about women treating other women so horridly. I loved the 10 second description of yourself. I might give that a try someday.
Drop by sometime and say hello!

Loved the post, Jeanne---I'll remember that you are a good rescuer if I am ever stranded on the north side at 2:00 a.m. in the morning! As fun as it is to meet new people at a conference, it is always nice to see a friendly face, too, and it was great to see yours! I'll have to get the highlights from day two from you---class in the morning wore my brain out, so I missed it!

I met you at blogher and just wanted to come and say thank you. I told you my roommate had lost her luggage and you offered to call around and find everything she would need to borrow. Luckily her luggage showed up soon after but your friendliness and willingness to help a stranger touched me and will stay with me.
Thank you.
PS. I'm loving the blog.

Hi Jeanne-
I had to come see the house after our conversation (Saturday on the breezy terrace).
You should add great storyteller to your 10 second introduction.
I'm glad to have met you.

Oh wow. Hi Carrie, Adrienne, Jenny and moxie-mom. Welcome to Casa Disaster.
Hey Kori = NU MSLOC Peep :)
Lynne - I think an irreverent sense of humor is the key to surviving adversity.
Trissa - Please, please move to Chicago already. There is a house down the street for sale with a space large enough for Nick's woodshop.

Hi there! I found your blog from a comment you left in Holli's newest post. The second I read "I am a tomboy woodworking mama who needs a makeover and a living room ceiling" I knew I would enjoy you LOL...so I had to come check out your blog! My dad is a woodworker-I love the smell of sawdust in the morning =)
