Yes, that is a pen in her hand. She was taking notes in the margins. I read them later after she went down for a nap.

I remember reading my parent's parenting books as a child. Not annotating them though. I guess that's because I wasn't a 'spirited child'. I think mostly I thought they weren't following the instructions very well with my sister.

I've moved the "starting to get nervous" age up to 5.
