This entry is for my mom, who has promised to disown me if I do not post something about the house and/or her granddaughter. These are not idle threats as she has been obsessed with her own demise since I was about nineteen or so. How did I know this? There were clues. Like that fact that she has been putting Post-It notes onto various items in her house with the names of her daughters or grandchildren since, um, forever. These Post-Its get rearranged depending upon whether we are being sufficiently dutiful or not. We also get emails like this one:
"Who wants the Captain's decanter that Dad gave me for our second anniversary after we're gone? Because we're not going to live forever, you know. By the way, when are you coming to visit?"
So you see, if I ever want that Hummel figurine of a little boy fishing or the macrame owl from the foyer of my childhood home, I have to pony up some photos. Hope you understand. Anyway, here are photos of the benches while being built...

She sounds like a piece of work. We really don't want to hear about her.

I'm with your mom, I just didn't have anything to threaten you with! Seriously, I've been going through HIP withdrawal. I'm glad you're having a nice summer, but post more often!

Immediately after I hit post, the name Grace smacked me in the brain. Then I read that awful first comment and hoped you wouldn't get offended and pull down your blog. I'm relieved to find out it was your Mom.
I am probably your Mom's age or older and those post-its are a great idea. Another idea is to turn some of her stuff into gifts now so she can see her loved ones enjoy them while she is alive. I was never blessed with children but am giving away a lot of my crap - I mean very nice stuff - to my nieces & nephews now.

I, too, am glad you're having a good summer and I'm prepared to wait it out, BUT, I sure hope you come back to us, Jeanne, because I am in serious HiP withdrawal and the trickel of posts has only served to whet my appetite (or addiction, as the case may be). The window seats look great. Can't wait to see them all finished.

I'm glad that was your mom's "anonymous" post. It seemed so mean-spirited. I enjoy ALL of your posts, no matter the topic. Although house and Grace posts are my favorites.

Maybe our moms were separated at birth. I knew right away that "anonymous" had to be HIP's mom because that is exactly what my mom's reaction would have been. :)

Wow guys! Your house is really coming together. You have made so much progress this year. Very exciting and fun to watch.

I can't decide which I want more-- your family as neighbors, or your mom to meet my mom. I think the latter might be dangerous-- kinda like those old scifi films where two halves of the same person finally meet, and instantly merge into one body!
