It is no secret that I have problems keeping plants alive. Unless they are able to grab my ankles as I wander past and scream, "WATER MEEEE!", I often forget that they are there.
To survive in my house, you have to speak up. Grace has developed a 60 decibel screech and I think that demonstrates the theory of acclimatization pretty well. Smart kid.
But I have REALLY been making an effort with the garden this year. I've kept it weeded (more or less) and have been clearing out the dead things. Aaron has helped me keep what is left of the grass under control. At least, we are no longer the neighborhood lawn losers.
I still get confused, though, because I don't know which plants are desirable and which plants should be banished.
So I'm turning to those of you in blogland who know more about green and growing things than I do...keep or throw on the heap?

Lungwort? If so, keep. It should bloom in the spring.

Looks like lungwort to me, if so it will bloom in the spring and look kindof similar to bluebells.

I agree!

The foliage is kind of nice too, hm?

You'd think with a gardening blog, I'd know what it was instantly, but I didn't. I agree that it looks like lungwort, but the true test is -- do you like it? I have some "native plants" (otherwise known as weeds) growing where I didn't put them and since I think they're pretty, there they stay.

I was going to guess lungwort too (also known as pulminaria.) Here are a couple of photos showing them in bloom:

That looks like lungwort, which is a thing to keep.

Looks like lungwort. Mine thrives in shade/semi shade. It has little pink AND blue blooms on tall stalks early sping. Alot prettier than you'd think. And it is decent ground cover too.

What is considered a weed? (rhetorical) I consider a weed any undesirable plant or invasive creature that you wouldn't welcome into your home. So the choice is yours and rather subjective. If you like it keep it if not- destroy...I mean , compost it. Does it scream for water or cookies?

Oh hooray! I'm sorry, this is off topic, but I found you back in February and stayed up late reading through all your archives, thoroughly enjoying the progress of the house. I left off when the living room was still in shambles. I finally found the URL again and quickly dove back in to see how it turned out, and it's gorgeous!! Can't wait to see how the window benches turn out as well.

Lungwort? WHAT A COOL NAME! Thank you thank you for identifying that for me!
Yes, I do like the pretty leaves so I think I'll keep it.
Andrew, you crack me up. You are my favorite garden philosopher.
Jessica--Welcome back!
