I love, love, love design and products from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland for three reasons:
The Sweden Shop sells the kinds of items that you will use everyday and pass down to the next generation. And, rumor has it, they are having a big SALE starting TODAY! (January 24th through February 1st)
ALL BLANKETS AND DALE OF NORWAY SWEATERS ARE 30% OFF!!
ALL CHRISTMAS MERCHANDISE IS 25% OFF!!

Yippeeeeee!
**I can't include IKEA in the durable category. Sorry, IKEA!
I loooooooove the blankets at The Sweden Shop. They are the type of blankets that you give as wedding gifts, or new baby gifts, or buy for yourself if want something warm AND beautiful in your house.
Blankets from designers like Klippan, Elvang, Rice of Denmark, and Marimekko.
You can also catch a yummy breakfast or lunch at Tre Kronor while you're up in the 'hood. Maybe I'll see you there!

I love that shop! I'll be in Chicago in March for conference - I'll have to try to remember to carve out some time to pop in and look around - it's been a few years.

This looks like a cool shop. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the neighborhood. And your post reminds me that it's been WAY too long since I've been to Noon-O Kebab. Gotta remedy that situation. I love their food. :)

I was there just two weeks ago. We pickup the great bike basket. Love their stuff.

FIrst I must back up a few weeks. Your home looks beautiful. Congratulations on a job well done.
I have been a fan of the Sweden Shop since long before you and Lisa were born. It's been interesting to see it evolve over the years. If I were starting over again I would head there in a heartbeat. BUT - it's time to downsize - NO new purchases!

Hey Jeanne...I happened to come across your house diary doing a search on my dad, John Ehrenfrid Palm (AKA Eugene Palm). I'm not sure when he changed his name....but he IS the "Junior Birdman" you talk of in an entry way back in 2004! And, YES..my grandparents were Ehrenfrid and Anna (Toltin) Palm. My grandfather was from Sweden (interesting that you like The Sweden Shop). Anyway, I don't know if you still have the old memorabilia(?)...but I know that my brother, Steve Palm, who lives in the Atlanta area now, would truly be interested in it (our dad is still in the Chicago area in an assited living facility w/ Alzheimers unfortunatly)! You can get in touch with me at: jeanielochner@yahoo.com (I was born Jean Carol Palm). What a lovely home you've made!

How I love the Sweden Shop. How I wish I had more money to buy things there, even with on sale!
Not sure if you read my old blog when I wrote this, but your comment about IKEA called it to mind:

Oh dear, I think that you have just given me a new shop to lust over. :)
By the way, there is a problem at Houseblogs.net (one blog feed keeps coming in over and over again as new, even though it isn't), and your contact page doesn't come up.

Really, I am missing you a lot. Even if you don't have anything new to say, please let us know you're okay. I, for one, am worried.

Ikea not durable? I have to disagree. Billy the Bookcase was used as a bookcase in the living room in Belgium from 1990-1998. He then moved to my daughter's room in a different house and held toy boxes from 1998-2000. In 2000 he moved to the USA and held ceramic tiles, tools and tinned cat food until 2004. He moved again and now holds more tools, and renovation resources. Our style changed but Billy the bookcase is as stable and useful as ever.
